The Closing Bell Podcast is Born!

That's right folks, that is the sound of the opening bell and markets are open for trading!  I released my first episode of the World of Warcraft gold making and economy show: Closing Bell Podcast.  I knew some of my guildmates would give it a listen, but I had no idea how much support would flood my twitter feed from all you great people. In the first 24 hours of mentioning the show on twitter, we had 75 interactions and over 100 listeners.  I would like to thank each and every one of you for your support and encouragement. If you are interested in following the show and listening to future episodes, there are links to iTunes and Stitcher in side bar of this page.  Time to hop back in the studio and get working on Episode 2.

Resurgence of Red Gems in 5.4

Back in my day... a player would stack main stat red gems and in many cases ignore socket bonuses in favor of more strength, intellect or agility.

Today, with powerful online tools like AskMrRobot, MoP has been the expansion of hybrid colored gems.  One of my best sellers is the Fierce Vermillion Onyx, an orange colored strength /haste gem that fits my red sockets.  As a retribution paladin, I use a ton of these gems trying to gain as much haste as possible.  At an ilvl of 541 and fully raid buffed, I sit comfortably at 51% haste.  In 5.4, Siege of Orgrimmar, many haste build classes will be able to reach soft and hard caps that were unobtainable in previous tiers.

I have neither the ability or the desire to do the math or theory-craft about these haste caps here, but what I can offer is gold making speculation. I believe that many classes will reach secondary stat soft caps and choose to gem for main stats in 5.4.  If we look at the loot tables for our final raid tier, there are also an overwhelming amount of red sockets on tier gear.

Planning Ahead

We always want to leave our material as raw as possible before a patch because we don't know exactly what will happen until patch day.  Having a ton of golden lotus stockpiled before 5.4 is never a bad idea for rare gem transmutes.  I am also stocking up on tons of Pandarian Garnet (the common red gem).  In these slow summer months on my server, I have been picking these up at about 1-3g each.  If my theory is correct, these will be incredibly profitable in both the rare x-mutes and perfect cut main stat gems. We will have to leave it to the SimCrafters and mathematicians on the forums to set the gemming trends for 5.4.  Hopefully, you as goldmakers will be in a good position to cash in.

The Big Reset

If you aren't already a power user of Trade Skill Master 1.0 it's not too late for you to compete in your server's auction house. This week, we saw the release of TSM version 2.0, a completely new and redesigned gold making suite. Version 2.0 is completely different than its predecessor and is causing some serious head scratching amongst many gold makers.  Much like the previous version, 2.0 allows for the creation of auctioning groups.  Now, there are a series of "operations" that can be applied to these groups allowing the user to customize their work flow and post in an incredibly efficient manner.

With 2.0 we don't have the sheer number of resources to guide us threw the setup, yet.  However, popular gold makers like Jim Younkin, Phatlewtz, and others are starting to release some videos and blog posts to help us get familiar with this powerful addon.

So what's the hurry to switch to 2.0 now that I am finally comfortable with the original TSM.  On The Happy Hour Roundtable episode #4  it was mentioned by the developers of TSM that support for version 1.0 would NOT be offered after the release of the new version.

Patch 5.4 is on the horizon.  If this new raid patch breaks TSM 1.0, many of its 100,000+ users that have not updated the add-on will be posting by hand and frantically trying to figure out the new version.  My suggestion is: DON'T WAIT.  Download 2.0 now, while you have a few weeks to get comfortable with it.  Learn to harness its power so you aren't stuck out in the cold on patch day.  If you have never used the original version because you heard its too complicated, there is literally no better time to start than right now.

Opening Bell

Today begins my adventure into the world of pod-casting and blogging about gold making in the World of Warcraft.  For someone who is new to both forms of media, the task seems daunting at first glance.  It reminds me of the first time I installed Trade Skill Master (TSM) and stared at it for 3 days before jumping in head first.  Over the last six months I was able to figure out that add-on and build my net worth from 17,000 gold to the 500,000 gold that I have today.  Surely, I will be able to figure out pod-casting too, right?

My goal with this blog and podcast is to provide interesting and valuable content in an entertaining atmosphere.  There are so many great gold making podcasts out there today, and I listen to almost every one of them each week.  My only criticism to these shows is "MORE!"  When it comes to gold making in WoW, I have this insatiable hunger for more information, more content and simply more shows.  The only answer I could come up with was to create my own.

I hope you will join me as I embark on this journey to gold cap and beyond.
